A brief retrospective on the production of Starman.
Although Starman was only publicly released in 2023, this game began to be designed at the beginning of the pandemic by Brazilians Paulo and Rafael Silva, father and son. It all started when Paulo challenged his son to program a game together to occupy their time during the confinement period. The father would program the game, and Rafael, then nine years old, would design the characters and the story.
After some time, Bitnamic (the Brazilian twin sister of Teknamic) started to support this project. Our illustrator JRR Arts created the illustration that would become the cover of the game. Pedro Pimenta, also a Bit/Tek collaborator, composed the music for the game.
In 2022, Starman had its first public presentation at the Bitnamic booth in the Brasil Game Show event in São Paulo. Countless visitors have had the opportunity to play Starman on an N-Go. With the result of this feedback, Paulo continued to improve his game.
As KS2 Next's delivery date approached, it became necessary to pursue the physical edition. Then, Clive Townsend joined and worked on the game's cover and final logo.
Ultimately, we have Starman - the result of a beautiful father-son interaction - a new game for the ZX Spectrum Next, which essentially focuses on the player's skill, inspired by classic games from the 80s!
